John Mayer's New Single

There it is, the new single from the upcoming album 'Battle Studies' is already confirmed. It's called 'Who Says' and it was supposed to be stream-able from this link but I really can't hear anything from it so I settled with this. Youtube's such a life saver these days.

And if you haven't checked out the vid, be my guest and please take a look at that before you continue. I'm going to rant a little bit and I won't want to spoil it for you.

For those who have, try pressing Ctrl+A. Yes, now.

VOILA!

Here's what comes to mind, hearing 'Who Says' for the first time:
"Is this a joke?"
"The great Mayer almighty's new single? This?"

I've been a Mayer fan ever since.. childhood, probably, due to my brother's influence. My first album to hear was 'Room for Squares' and it still echoes sometime in my head. It has this cool vibe, and great guitar-playing skill, and the lyrics are somewhat thoughtful (his earlier works are sometimes naive, but at least it still feels honest).

They say we don't have to believe something to say it out loud. And I think (oh God, I'm hoping!) that JM didn't really mean what he was talking about.

(Yes, I'm talking about this:
Who says I can’t get stoned?
Call up a girl that I used to know
Fake love for an hour or so
Who says I can’t get stoned?)

I felt betrayed. I'm really disappointed. This is how it must have felt to find out that the hero you've been idolizing for forever is actually a jerk.

On the bright side, though, the music is actually good. It's not that far from other Mayerish tunes. Even the i-dont-know-what-it's-called,-you-know-that-one-from-'heart-of-life' picking technique is still used.

I just hate that he's gone so lyrically shallow.

(But I probably will still buy the album when it comes out at November, I'll give it a review after I have it in my hands.)

Bye!

quick news!

(well, it's probably not that new, but anyway...)

Monkey to Millionaire is.. uh.. OK, I guess. After seeing the Rolling Stone's review on Lantai Merah, I figured I'd get it on my next trip to the jungle (read: the mall). Well, to be honest, they had me at 'the next Efek Rumah Kaca'. Being an admirer of Efek Rumah Kaca's lyrics (but not the music, it's way too eerie and spooky to be properly listened to), I figured I'll have nothing to lose, right? And so I did get it last Friday.

And boy, was I not annoyed.

The minute I get into my car, I fumbled with my bag to extract the copy of Lantai Merah I just bought. I was thrilled to see all the red. And so I took the disc. Pushed it in the player. Waited anxiously.

Bit my lips.

Why is it taking so long?

And finally, after almost a minute of waiting, the record started. I was impressed by the opening hook of that first song. Hmm. Nice rhythm section you got there, M2M. And right at that moment, it started skipping.

Damn.

(To be honest: Damn. Damn. Damn.)

I pressed the forward button to go to the next song, and it was as lame as the first. Skipping all the way. Next song. Same. Next song.

It didn't help after I cleaned the disc with some tissue. And so I was frustrated, feeling ripped off. I contemplated about getting back to aksara to get it replaced, but I was already near the vicinity of my house. And so I gritted my teeth and put the unenjoyed CD back into the case, and the case into the red jacket. Oh boy, was I annoyed.

Magically, though, the CD is completely playable in my laptop's CD drive. I wonder if the problem is in my car's player?

(Oh, and about M2M's record... Well, it's OK. Nothing really new.. But some songs are good. I agree with Rolling Stone, the key tracks in the album is 'Replika', 'Merah', and '30 Nanti', at least for me. Especially 'Merah'. And did you know that they recorded at Sinjitos? I often practice there, y'know, with no intention of bragging or anything...)

Anyway, Kirsten Stewart is Joan Jett in the movie The Runaways. Just google her name and Joan's and you'd get heaps of links to pictures of her in her awesome new hair. (And I heard Lohan the fish wanted the role as well? Ah, drama..)

Rock on!

The thing that hurts the most is
That you don't miss me
As much as you did years past.

Quickie!

Hello again! I'm back only for a hasty update, so let's get on with it, shall we?

I've been doing my AS Level Exam these weeks, and since I took 4 subjects (Maths and the Natural Sciences), it's bound to be a busy month! (And indeed it has been)

And to tell you the truth, I've got gigantic stacks of paper and books at home waiting to be revised, and sadly there's no time to revise everything, so I kind of depended on this site for decent explanations (esp. in Physics and Chemistry). Check it out! S-cool is cool (well, kind of)!

Aside from revising and revising while listening to old skool Avril on repeat, I'm also busy doing this Science Olympiad thingies. Long story short, I'm currently struggling to get myself into the national competition, 'cause that'd be a very nice addition to my CV, don't you think? Just wish me luck, okay? I'll need a LOT of that.

I heard someone out there gave a fatwa about Facebook being haram? *sighs. I really don't have anything to say except that they don't know what they're doing. Trying to block the tides of modernisation, eh? Good luck doing that.

Talking about modernisation... I think Twitter is overrated.

(Especially after many teenage girls flooded all over the place, and left behind their nasty trash as tweets. Really, if there's a thing I just can't stand, it's ignorance. Another thing I can't stand even more: ignorance masked with a whole lotsa money and a pretty face.)

*a quick review*
FREEZEPOP IS MIND-POPPING. I'll get their latest album asap.

And I've just discovered a new passion. Reading fanfiction.

Byebye!

Night Sky

I've been looking at the night sky for a while.
I've lost myself in the dark,
and they say the stars were their infallible guides.
But what does it mean when all is black?

I've used my telescope, Jack,
I was so alone so I thought I could use a company.
But it seems that you're not what I lack,
you and the distance between you and me.

I've been laying on my back, imagining constellations,
inventing silly names for those invisible stars,
and how strange,
looking at a face and seeing someone else instead.

(Please, bear with me, for my poem-writing mood is back. Posts will be normal again, but I can't promise you when. Love.)

Frozen Lovers

(in the Winter of The Heart)

They say we don't have winter here.
Then how come I always freeze,
my feet like frozen roots inside the snow,
whenever you come by?

I felt like I've lost all my leaves.
I thought I was going to die of the cold.
The sub-zero chill eating me from inside.
I wanted to hug you and huddle,
but I couldn't.

We were as miserable as lonely trees,
frozen in place in the field of white.

Your pathetic smile, trying to be brave,
when I know of your pains and heartbreaks.
Tried to hug you, comfort you,
maybe fall in love all over again with you,
but my arms were as stiff as branches.

At night, I tried to stay awake,
Afraid that my dreams will replace you,
and I'll forget how the last spring feels like.
But memories are not enough to thaw my heart,
my broken frozen heart.

... Our broken, futureless hearts.

Mayday, mayday, we're going down

We've tried everything
To salvage this.

We kept prying,
Looking for loopholes that don't exist.
Searching for a way back in,
But there wasn't one.

We've tried, we've cried.
We were desperate.
Or was it only me?

And so I guess May's the month of nay.

And it's about time to move on.
